A Street Toward the Sea
PUERTO RICO
## PUERTO RICO
A colorful street, a tropical afternoon, and the beauty of simply wandering
Pastel buildings line a sunlit street beneath an intensely blue Caribbean sky. Coral, lavender, yellow, green, and white façades unfold downhill, interrupted by wrought-iron balconies, tropical palms, and the everyday details of city life.
I captured this original photograph while exploring Puerto Rico during a trip in February 2019.
There wasn't a famous monument at the end of the street or a particular viewpoint I had come to find. What caught my attention was simply the street itself — its color, architecture, light, and unmistakable sense of place.
PLACE — Puerto Rico
Some places announce themselves through grand landscapes and famous landmarks.
Others reveal their character through their streets.
Walking through Puerto Rico, I was drawn to the layers of color and architectural detail around me — pastel façades glowing beneath tropical sunlight, ornate balconies extending above the street, palms appearing between buildings, and narrow roads leading toward another block waiting to be explored.
Together, those everyday details gave the street its personality.
PURSUIT — Following the Street
I captured this photograph during a trip to Puerto Rico in February 2019 while exploring on foot.
I wasn't searching for this particular composition.
I was simply walking.
As I looked down the street, the buildings seemed to layer naturally into the distance. Each façade introduced another color. Balconies and utility lines created patterns overhead, while a palm reached into the frame from the opposite side.
The strong afternoon light made everything feel even more vivid.
So I stopped and photographed what was in front of me.
Sometimes, the best way to discover a place is to have nowhere in particular to go.
PERSPECTIVE — A City Revealed One Street at a Time
Travel photography can easily become a collection of landmarks.
But when I think back on the places I've visited, I often remember something much smaller — a street I walked down, a building that caught the light, a café I passed, or a corner where I stopped for no particular reason.
Those scenes may never appear on a list of must-see attractions.
Yet they are often what make one place feel different from another.
That's what I wanted to preserve here.
Not simply a photograph of a street, but the feeling of wandering through somewhere unfamiliar and becoming curious about what might be around the next corner.
Sometimes, getting to know a place begins by simply walking through it.
That sense of color, curiosity, and everyday discovery is what I wanted to preserve in this frame.
