While We Waited

Sometimes, what we discover while waiting becomes as memorable as what we came to find.

## EVERGLADES NATIONAL PARK, FLORIDA

A quiet study of light, anticipation, and the beauty found while waiting

Golden evening light stretches across the wetlands of Everglades National Park as towering clouds rise above the horizon. Beneath the immense Florida sky, marsh grasses glow in warm tones and a tiny distant landmark gives scale to a landscape that seems to extend endlessly in every direction.

This original fine art photograph was captured during the golden hours before sunset. With its expansive composition, gentle earth tones, and sense of stillness, it brings the openness and quiet beauty of the Everglades into your space.

PLACE — Everglades National Park, Florida

The Everglades is a landscape defined by openness.

Rather than dramatic mountains or towering geological formations, its beauty unfolds horizontally — endless wetlands, sawgrass marshes, distant horizons, and an enormous sky that seems to become part of the landscape itself.

As evening approaches, changing light brings warmth and depth to this seemingly simple terrain, revealing just how much there is to notice.

PURSUIT — Waiting for the Alligators

I captured this photograph while waiting for something entirely different.

Like many visitors to the Everglades, I was hoping to see wild alligators. As sunset approached, I spent much of my time scanning the water and marsh, waiting for one to appear.

And while I waited, I began noticing everything else.

The evening light slowly turned the marsh grasses golden. Towering clouds drifted across the enormous sky. Far in the distance, a tiny landmark rested along the horizon, somehow making the surrounding landscape feel even larger.

Not long after I made this photograph, we finally spotted several alligators before the sun disappeared.

But this quiet landscape became one of the moments I remembered most.

Sometimes, what we discover while waiting becomes as memorable as what we came to find.

PERSPECTIVE — Looking Beyond What I Came to See

This photograph reminds me of something travel and photography continually teach me: when we're focused on finding one thing, it's easy to overlook everything happening around it.

The Everglades didn't reveal itself through a dramatic instant. It happened gradually — through changing light, moving clouds, warm grasses, and the anticipation of simply standing there and watching.

What began as waiting for wildlife became a moment of noticing the landscape itself.

That sense of openness, patience, and unexpected discovery is what I wanted to preserve in this frame.
