Whitewashed windmills rise against a wide blue summer sky in this original photograph from Spain.
I photographed this scene during a family trip through Spain in the summer of 2018. What caught my attention was the simplicity of the landscape — the brilliant white of the windmills, the dry golden earth, and the soft clouds moving through an almost endless blue sky.
Rather than a grand landscape or a fleeting moment of dramatic light, this photograph reminds me of something quieter: the places we encounter while traveling with people we love, and the small scenes that become part of how we remember a journey years later.
